Both cities are within the City of Los Angeles and are served by the Los Angeles Unified School District. Schools rank fairly high, better than 50th percentile. Both are just north of the airport and the estimated population of both cities combined is 50,000.

Playa del Rey has a big, sandy beach with single family homes, condos and apartments sitting on bluffs overlooking the ocean.

The middle to upper middle class neighborhood of Westchester is well maintained. On the bluffs overlooking Playa del Rey is the privately owned Loyola Marymount University.

Most tract homes were built in the 50s and 60s but newer two story homes have four bedrooms with custom-built touches.

Many residents work in local aerospace but the commute to downtown Los Angeles is 19 miles.
